My journey in electronic music draws inspiration from diverse sources, notably artists like Oliver Heldens, whose exploration with his alter ego HI-LO resonated deeply with me. Witnessing his seamless transition between different styles showcased the power of artistic versatility. Initially delving into electro house, my musical odyssey truly began when I started blending EDM with the raw energy of techno.

This experimental phase allowed me to uncover my path, especially as began infusing vocals into my tracks, ultimately shaping the foundation of my future techno compositions. What I’m most proud of in my musical evolution is the reflection of my personality within my compositions. The incorporation of dark, haunting undertones juxtaposed with melodic breaks mirrors the depth of emotions within me.

This blend creates a canvas where | can express the dichotomy of light and shadow, an intricate representation of my own experiences and perspectives. Much like Heldens‘ duality with HI-LO, this journey through various genres has not only shaped my artistic identity but also allowed me to craft a distinctive fusion of sounds that speak to the essence of who | am as a musician.

Participating in the “WAY MUSIC FESTIVAL” and sharing the console with Merk & Kremont must have been an exciting experience. Could you share some highlights or memorable moments from that event?

Participating in the “WAY MUSIC FESTIVAL” was a truly unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was electric, and being on stage felt surreal. One standout moment was feeling the crowd’s energy pulsating with each track I played. There was this one particular track that sparked an incredible reaction, creating an amazing connection with everyone there.

Your performance at the ‘Padua PRIDE Village’ in 2017 was significant. Can you share how that opportunity came about?

The chance to perform at the ‘Padua PRIDE Village‘ in 2017 stemmed from industry connections and networking. It was a remarkable experience to contribute to an event celebrating diversity and inclusion through music. The event’s organization was impressive, with a structured approach to entertainment that involved engaging dancers and captivating shows, adding an extra layer of vibrancy to the celebration.

Their recognition fuels my passion and encourages me to persist in exploring new musical horizons. Their support serves as a powerful reminder to remain dedicated to my craft and keep striving for excellence in my music journey.

Your releases span across various record labels like Ensis Records, Reload Music/Sony Music ltaly, and Hungry Koala Records (Universal Australia). How do you adapt your music to fit different labels, and what do you look for in a label when releasing your tracks?

I produce my own music and then study various labels to assess which ones might align best with my artistic style. I aim to understand each label’s sound directions and target audience to determine which could effectively showcase and promote my music. When selecting a label, I look for a strong support network, adequate promotion, and, most importantly, alignment with my artistic vision to best showcase my music.

Could you walk us through your creative process when producing music? How do you approach starting a new track, and what elements do you prioritize during the production phase?

My creative process kicks off when I feel inspired and have a melody in mind that I’d like to bring to life on Ableton for an upcoming track. For me, it’s crucial to differentiate the first and second drops, ensuring each has its unique flavor while maintaining a cohesive musical journey. I focus on crafting a melodic break that smoothly bridges the gap between the two parts of the song, creating a seamless transition. Additionally, I prioritize developing a distinctive bassline for the drop, something that defines and sets my track apart. This process allows me to blend my
initial inspiration with a structured approach to create a track that’s both engaging and dynamic.

Innovation is crucial in electronic music. What techniques or approaches do you employ to keep your music fresh and distinct in an ever-evolving industry?

To maintain freshness in my music within the dynamic electronic music landscape, I constantly experiment with new sounds, blending diverse genres to create a unique fusion. I prioritize staying updated on emerging production techniques and technology, integrating them to evolve my sound and ensure each track holds its distinct and innovative elements.

Your journey as a DJ/producer has seen various stages and experiences. What do you consider the most challenging aspect of the music industry, and how do you overcome such challenges?

The hardest part in music is standing out because there are lots of talented people. I try to be myself, make my own style better, and connect with others in the industry. When things get tough, I keep going and don’t give up easily.

Collaboration is often key in the music scene. Are there any artists or producers you aspire to collaborate with in the future? If so, what draws you to collaborating with them?

Absolutely, collaboration is vital. There are artists and producers I’d love to work with in the future. What draws me to them is their innovative approach and their ability to create unique music. There’s one artist in particular | deeply admire, but for superstition’s sake, I’ll keep it unspoken for now.

The evolution of techno today has taken a more EDM-oriented direction, integrating vocals and adopting more commercial drops compared to its earlier form that focused primarily on relentless beats. This shift has brought a broader audience into the techno sphere, making it more accessible but also challenging its traditional essence. While it’s exciting to witness this genre diversifying and reaching new listeners, there’s a delicate balance between maintaining its authentic roots and embracing these contemporary elements.

Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Emanuele Marini in terms of upcoming releases or projects? Are there any specific goals or directions you’re aiming to explore in your music career?

In the near future, fans can anticipate new releases that blend my signature style with fresh elements. As for projects, I’m gearing towards showcasing my music at a renowned festival worldwide.
