In a bold move to address the often-overlooked issue of hearing damage in the music industry, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has teamed up with Sweetwater to launch the Hearing Health Fund. This initiative is designed to offer vital support to artists, engineers, and crew members who are at high risk of noise-induced hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to loud environments.
With nearly 40% of music professionals reportedly affected, the fund provides free access to three-part hearing screenings conducted by certified audiologists. Recipients also receive education on hearing preservation and a pair of Etymotic ER-20XS high-fidelity earplugs—gear that protects without dulling the live sound experience.
Dr. Todd Page, Sweetwater’s in-house physician, emphasized the urgency: “Once hearing damage sets in, there’s no turning back.” The initiative not only brings awareness to a critical issue but also aims to preserve the very sense that shapes music.
