Miami Music Week (MMW) 2024 is in the books, and it was a wild ride! While Mother Nature threw a wrench in the plans with unexpected rain, partygoers and promoters adapted to keep the good times rolling. Here’s a look at the winners and losers of this year’s festivities.
Winners: Factory Town & Festival Flexibility
Factory Town emerged as a huge winner. Their multi-stage venue offered a diverse lineup of house and techno, with the rarely used Warehouse Stage stealing the show for its dark, industrial vibes. This flexibility proved crucial when compared to Afterlife at the Miami Marine Stadium.
Losers: Afterlife & Traffic
Afterlife’s stunning location was marred by traffic nightmares. The single access road led to gridlock, highlighting the limitations of the venue for large events. Local resident complaints likely won’t help either.
Winners & Losers: Bayfront Park
The iconic Bayfront Park took a beating from the rain and festival crowds. However, Ultra is responsible for post-event cleanup, and there’s good news: the long-dormant fountain will be revitalized for Ultra’s 25th anniversary in 2025!
Losers: Pool Parties & A State of Trance Fans
Many pool parties were rained out on Friday, a major disappointment for attendees and promoters. A State of Trance fans also missed out on Armin van Buuren’s highly anticipated set and b2b with HI-LO due to the downpour.
Winners & Losers: Artists with Extra Sets & Fans Who Embrace the Chaos
Adam Beyer benefited from the rain, getting to play an extra set at Ultra and closing the mainstage on Sunday. Conversely, Chris Lake & FISHER’s Under Construction show couldn’t be rescheduled. The unexpected rain also created a sense of liberation for those who embraced the mud and puddles, with Friday night at Factory Town being the wildest event of the week.
Losers: Local “Karens”
Residents near venues like the Miami Marine Stadium consistently complain about noise and disruptions. Their efforts may prevent large events from returning to certain locations.
