John Summit’s rise to fame in the dance music world is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Known for producing his biggest hits from the comfort of his bed, Summit’s journey is as unique as it is inspiring. Recently, he opened up to Rolling Stone about his unconventional path to success.
Summit’s love for House music blossomed in Chicago’s vibrant nightlife scene. While studying at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he began DJing at local bars, clubs, and fraternity parties. Post-graduation, he briefly worked as a CPA before realizing his true calling lay in music. “I was definitely let go from my job,” he recalls with a laugh. His relentless pursuit of his dream led him to send numerous demos to record labels, eventually catching the attention of Defected Records with his track ‘Deep End.’
Since then, Summit’s career has skyrocketed. His remix of Kx5’s ‘Escape’ and the viral hit ‘Where You Are’ featuring Hayla have cemented his place in the EDM scene. The latter track not only dominated festivals worldwide but also secured a spot in Billboard’s Top Ten Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.
Despite his success, Summit remains grounded. Known for his candid online presence, he maintains a clear sense of boundaries. As he gears up for a headlining set at Madison Square Garden, he reflects on his journey: “I feel like I’m at the top of the world right now and I love it so much.” His story is a powerful reminder that following your passion can lead to extraordinary places—even if it starts from bed.
