Are DJs reaching their limit with incessant requests for overplayed songs? It seems so, as DJ PressPlay, the resident DJ at Coda in Colchester, has introduced a unique solution. Colin Gingell-Good, better known as DJ PressPlay, has implemented a price list for these “overplayed songs” to deter persistent partygoers who refuse to take “no” for an answer.
Since April 2022, signs displaying the price list have been a fixture on his DJ booth. The charges are steep: £50 for birthday requests, £100 for songs that don’t fit the night, and £100 for requests to play a song immediately because someone is leaving. The fines escalate dramatically for notoriously overplayed hits, with £250 for Kings Of Leon’s ‘Sex On Fire,’ £500 for Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall,’ and an eye-watering £1,000 for The Killers’ ‘Mr. Brightside.’

Gingell-Good explains that the price list serves as a “polite reminder” and a lighthearted joke, targeting those who insist on having their way and sparing him lengthy debates about song choices. He emphasizes that requests for songs that fit the vibe of the night and enhance the experience for everyone are still welcome and free of charge.
Most patrons find the humorous approach amusing and respectful, understanding that it’s meant to maintain the flow and energy of the night. DJ PressPlay’s innovative method not only deters unwanted requests but also adds an entertaining twist to his performances, ensuring a great time for all.
